The unrest escalated after an alleged attack on the party's motorcade and rally, resulting in repeated confrontations, arson, and gunfire in the city.

The violence turned Gopalganj’s central areas — including the City Park and Launch Terminal — into virtual battle zones, prompting the government to take swift action.

🔒 Curfew and Military Deployment

To regain control of the situation, local authorities first imposed Section 144, a public restriction law, but when the violence continued, the interim government declared a curfew in Gopalganj from 8:00 PM Wednesday until 6:00 PM Thursday.

The curfew was enforced by a heavy deployment of police, military troops, and members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), with army patrols beginning three hours before the curfew officially started.

🚨 Attack on NCP Leaders

Earlier in the day, top leaders of the NCP were reportedly trapped and attacked while returning from the rally. According to the party, the attack was orchestrated by the ruling Awami League and its affiliated groups, claiming it was carried out in a “militant-style attempt to assassinate” their leadership.

Eventually, the NCP leaders were safely escorted out of the city under tight military and police protection.

🗨️ NCP’s Accusations
